The United Kingdom and France are strong commercial collaborators. In 2007 France was the UK’s second most important supplier and the UK was France’s primary export destination. Particularly strong in the food and drink industry where France supplies nearly 12% of British imports.

The British food and drink sector deficit is increasing year on year. In 2007 it grew by 4.25% reaching £12.2 billion. European countries supply 68.7% of imports. With a 1.5% increase of that total figure, France is well established as the second most important supplier of food and drinks with the Netherlands taking first place.
The total value of the British food and drink sector is £140 billion; France has an 11.8% market share or a value of £3.8 billion.

A Varied Offer

Ranging from bakery and patisserie to drinks, cheese and meat, the French offer to the UK is varied. Nevertheless it continues to be dominated by wines and spirits, dairy products and fresh fruit and vegetables.
